C-Clamps

Several of my dad’s C-clamps are layered together across one of his wooden workbenches, their heavy frames, threaded screws, and curved forms overlapping into a tight composition. I like the way the shapes lock together visually, even though each clamp is its own separate tool.

These are the kinds of objects I remember as part of the everyday landscape of his garage—solid, practical, and worn from use. Bringing them into my studio gave me time to look at them differently, not just as tools, but as familiar things that carried the marks of his hands and the work he loved doing.
